Position: Postdoctoral Position in Prof. Peng Yu’s Research Group

Department: College of Engineering/Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering

Responsibility:

(1) Collaborate with Principal Investigator (PI) to formulate research plans, conduct research projects independently, and publish high-impact international research results;

(2) Assist in applying for research funds, and actively apply for projects as the principal investigator with the support of the research group;

(3) Assist the PI in mentoring doctoral, master, and undergraduate students;

(4) Contribute to the development and management of the research group.

Job Description:

Prof. Peng Yu is a Tenured Associate Professor at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Xi’an Jiaotong University and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He previously served as a Research Fellow at NUS, a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Sydney, and a Scientist at Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), including the Data Storage Institute (DSI) and Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC).

Prof. Yu’s research focuses on complex fluid dynamics (e.g., magnetohydrodynamics, viscoelastic fluids, porous flows), multiphase flow and heat transfer, and fluid-structure interactions. He has published 130+ SCI-indexed papers with an H-index of 26 and was consecutively listed in Stanford University’s “Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists Worldwide” (2022–2024). He holds 25 authorized invention patents and 20+ utility model patents, and his achievements include the 2022 First Prize of Natural Science Award (Guangdong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) and the 2024 Second Prize of Shaanxi Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award.

Compensation and Benefits:

(1) Salary: Two-year appointment with a minimum annual salary of RMB 330,000 (including Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City postdoctoral living allowances). Social insurance and housing provident fund are provided per Shenzhen regulations. Outstanding candidates may qualify for the President’s Excellent Postdoctoral Fellowship, with salaries exceeding RMB 500,000/year.  

(2) Living Allowances:  Guangdong Province provides a total living allowance of 300,000 RMB (pre-tax) for eligible postdoctoral researchers, and Shenzhen City provides a total living allowance of 120,000 RMB (pre-tax) for eligible postdoctoral researchers, over a period of 24 months.  

(3) Housing: Eligible to apply for Shenzhen public housing through SUSTech. Alternatively, receive a monthly housing subsidy of RMB 2,800 (pre-tax) for two years.  

(4) Academic Support:  SUSTech provides excellent working environment and opportunities for domestic and international collaboration. Additionally, RMB 25,000 is allocated for domestic/international academic exchanges during the appointment.  

(5) Talent Programs: Assistance in applying for postdoctoral talent programs. Successful applicants may receive up to RMB 1,000,000 in subsidies (exclusive of provincial/municipal allowances).  

(6) Postdoctoral researchers who stay in Shenzhen for full-time work within six months after completing their appointment and sign a labor (employment) contract with an enterprise or institution for more than three years may receive a 360,000 RMB living allowance from the Shenzhen government (subject to the latest Shenzhen application requirements).  

(7) Postdoctoral researchers who receive the Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Support Program or the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation Special Funding during their appointment and sign a labor (employment) contract with the city within six months after completing their appointment will receive additional funding from the Shenzhen government at a 1:1 ratio to the national funding standard, up to 300,000 RMB (subject to the latest Shenzhen application requirements).  

(8) Postdoctoral researchers who win gold, silver, or bronze awards in the National or Guangdong Province Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and sign a labor (employment) contract with the city within six months after completing their appointment will receive additional innovation and entrepreneurship rewards from the Shenzhen government at a 1:1 ratio to the national and provincial reward amounts, up to 200,000 RMB (subject to the latest Shenzhen application requirements).  

(9) According to Article 39 of the "Shenzhen Postdoctoral Work Management Regulations," the funding items in this regulation do not overlap with the Shenzhen Newly Introduced Doctoral Talent Living Allowance (100,000 RMB).
