Dr. Huanshu Tan (谭唤书) joined the Southern University of Science and Technology as an assistant professor in December 2020. He develops the Multicomponent Fluids group at the SUSTech Center for Complex Flows and Soft Matter Research & the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering. Huanshu completed a B.Sc. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (2011) at Chongqing Jiaotong University and an M. Eng. in Fluid Mechanics (2014) at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Shanghai University. He obtained his Ph.D. in August 2018 from the Physics of Fluids Group at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. From 2018 to 2020, he worked as a postdoc researcher in the Squires’ Group of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the USA. He has published several scientific papers as the first/corresponding author in top world journals, including PNAS, Nature Communications, JFM, and Science Advances.

At SUSTech, his group focuses on multicomponent fluid dynamics, which are of great interest and have potential significance in diverse technologies, from chemical- and bio-engineering, nanotechnology, and advanced material science to environmental engineering. His current research interest lies in interfacial flows, liquid-liquid phase separation, microfluidics, and micro drops & bubbles.
